FROM LEGAL PROTECTION TO PERSONAL DIRECTION: NBSC’S ONLINE SYMPOSIUM FOR NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH 2026
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) conducted an online symposium on March 18, 2026, via Zoom in observance of National Women’s Month and in compliance with Commission on Higher Education Regional Office X (CHEDRO X) Memorandum No. 060, s. 2026, entitled, “Conduct and Documentation of Information Sessions on the Prevention of Exploitation, Blackmail, and Online Abuse and Legal Protection Available in Celebration of Women’s Month 2026.” The activity was spearheaded by the Gender and Development Office (GADO), with the Guidance and Counseling Office (GCO) joining through an additional session focused on informed decision-making among women.
Zandra Shellee Y. Ordinan, MA, GADO Head, delivered the opening remarks, expressing appreciation for the participants’ presence and engagement, and introduced the resource speakers. The first session, “Information Session on the Prevention of Exploitation, Blackmail, and Online Abuse,” was delivered by Atty. Jag Iesu Iñigo G. Murillo, CPA, REB, Legal Office Head, who presented an overview of applicable laws, discussed pertinent provisions, and outlined available remedies. The discussion provided participants with a clearer understanding of the legal measures in place and the actions that may be taken when confronted with such situations.
The second session, “Her Voice, Her Choice: Empowering Women through Informed Decisions,” was delivered by Christine S. Tabaco of the Department of General Education Curricula (DGEC) and GAD Coordinator. The session emphasized the value of informed choices, highlighting how awareness influences decision-making and shapes personal outcomes.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Jo Augustine G. Corpus, MAGC, RGC, GCO Head, who emphasized that the discussion extended beyond the transfer of information, touching on dignity, safety, and the courage to stand for oneself and others.
In bringing these conversations into a shared space, NBSC sustains a kind of awareness that does not end with the session itself. It lingers in how individuals carry what they have learned: shaping responses, sharpening judgment, and quietly influencing the way a community looks after its own.
